FFA lovers rejoice, because Aussie Drongo’s famous ‘Outback Octagon’ contest is back for a second edition, and it’s already gotten off to a wild start!
Outback Octagon is an exciting $30,000 tournament organised by Aussie Drongo and sponsored by Microsoft. The event sees each of 32 players play each other during a Swiss stage in a variety of highly randomised FFA’s. In each game the civs are totally random, and with its nomadic settings you risk being placed right alongside a neighbour.
Every player spawns with a King, which has bonus hit points and movement speed. Great… right? Well not necessarily because lose your King and it’s game over so you better devote your strategy to protecting it! and if you think for one moment that your King will easily be kept safe, think again, points are awarded for taking out the king, leading to plenty of aggression.
You can score points in plenty of ways during this event. The winner of each FFA gets 4 points, 1 point it awarded for every enemy King killed. A bonus point is awarded for every King eliminated when the opponent is in dark or feudal age. While 2 points are awarded for the first King eliminated. Bonus points are awarded for every player alive when you construct a Wonder if you go on to win with that wonder.
We’re not 3 week of play into the event. During week 1, PuppyPaw and Striker took the lead scoring 9 points each while Ourk was right behind scoring a healthy 8. DivineDFP game 4th with 6 points, followed by Don Artie and Wam with 4, rising star Anotand with 3, Kauop with 2 and VortiX, Crackedy, Avely, Kasva, and Simtom with 1 each.
In week 2, Anotand and Beastyqt took charge scoring a huge 10 points each, PuppyPaw and MarineLorD got 8 each, Blade5555 got 4, VortiX 3, Crackedy and Ourk 2 each and coRe, RecoN, TheViper, Avely, Kaup, Wam all with 1.
With everything so precariously set, you definitely don’t want to miss out on the ending. You can catch the rest of Outback Octagon on aussie Drongo’s YouTube channel here: https://www.twitch.tv/aussie_drongo
